Participant feedback, 2022-23.

‘A Handful of Time’ is a social, creative project by Artists Dot Howard and Sorrel Muggridge. It is building a collection of human-made objects and experiences, each one a snapshot of a moment in time. Each participant uses natural, local clay to create their own unique object/“handful”. A growing compendium of small works of art made to be handled with care: each one captures a moment in time and bares the unique lines and contours of their maker’s hands. Beautiful to look at and hold, inspiring at both the geological and personal scale.

‘A Handful of Time’ is for everyone. It’s about building and sharing as the project travels. Inspired by the cyclical processes of adaptation we see in the natural world, Dot and Sorrel have devised a project that adapts to the needs of multiple environments.

We seek local clay sources in each region we work in. This direct connection to the land is fundamental to the artwork and strongly resonates with our audiences. We are committed to always seeking to work with awareness of our environmental responsibilities and to learn as the project moves forward.
